Ground Casualty

PFC David A. Moore was an Armor Reconnaissance Specialist serving with D Troop, 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 1st Aviation Brigade, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam. During 1970, D-3/17 operations were primarily conducted in Military Region III. D Troop performed ground reconnaissance, security, and ambush missions. D Troop elements were also frequently used as the aero-rifle platoons for Air Cavalry troops and carried out ground reconnaissance and security of downed aircraft. At 3:30 PM on October 16, 1970, Moore was with his unit patrolling six kilometers (3.6 miles) southeast of Long Thanh city in Gia Dinh Province, RVN, when he fell from a log bridge crossing over the Rach Ba Ky stream. He reportedly was near the stream bank when he fell in. A swift current quickly carried him out of sight. Other members of the patrol dove into the water to help but were unable to locate him. Search efforts continued, and his body was found two days later. Moore, 20, had been in Vietnam only 18 days. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

honoring you....

War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth.
Those who did not come back alive remain
in perpetual springtime -- forever young --
And a part of them is with us always.
