Distinguished Flying Cross Award
Captain Monte L Moorberg
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Monte Larue Moorberg, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot over North Vietnam on 27 September 1966. On that date, Captain Moorberg was a member of a flight of F-105's assigned to support a large strike force by preceding it to the target and suppressing the flak in the immediate target area. Despite extremely accurate and intense anti-aircraft fire, reduced visibility, and threats from nearby SA-2 surface-to-air missile sites, he delivered is high explosive ordnance directly into the target area causing extensive destruction and immediately silencing the gun emplacements. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Moorberg reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Hail to Monte
I was an Aviation Cadet at James Connally AFB in Waco TX in the fall of 1961. Monte was a 2nd Lt sent down from the Academy to teach us the Chw=eers that would support the football team in it's game against Baylor. We all gather in the Main Theatre to hear Monte. He was MAGNIFICENT! He looked like a Greek god right off of an AF recruiting poster. Funny & articulate his time with us is etched i n my soul. I believe he would have been a four star with his outstanding leadership skills. I am now about to be 78 on July 17 - a year younger than Monte but I will forever have a connection with him and hope to meet him in heaven someday. I have thought of him many times and just now got the flash to look him up on Google. My sincerest condolences to his mother, wife and extended family - he was truly a shining light
