Short Timer

In his last letter home, Dean Moon told his family he had "68 days to go." Six days later, he was killed instantly by a sniper, while on patrol along a river, with men of his unit, Company D, 3rd Bat. 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division.

Dean was from Idaho and had a love of fishing, hunting, camping and working with horses. In the book, "Reasons To Remember" it says that, "The soldier was a quiet unassuming boy, but never forgotten by those who loved him." He was 21, when he died.

A friend of his, Larry Collins from Pennsylvania, who was a fellow Currahee wrote a Letter To The Editor of an Idaho Newspaper and that letter is also in the book.

He says, "I think of him often and will miss him always. I've cried and touched his name on the Panel 29W, Line 81, etched in the polished black granite of that long, black wall in Washington, D.C. I never knew any of Dean's relatives or friends back in Idaho, but I want them and all the people who read this to know that he is remembered."

Dean is buried in Grove City Cemetery, Blackfoot Idaho.
North of Lot # 13, Block # 124.

God rest your soul, Currahee.
