honoring you...

War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth.
Those who did not come back alive remain
in perpetual springtime -- forever young --
And a part of them is with us always.

Thank You

Dear Sgt Charles Mondyke, Thank you for your service as an Infantry Direct Fire Crewman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Veterans’ Day is this week. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Wolfhound Forever

I was with Charles when he was killed. I was to be his replacement as FO with the 2nd platoon of B 1/27th Inf. We conducted a combat assault over near the Cambodian Border. The enemy had the LZ surrounded and appeared to be waiting on us. We flew into a hail of small arms Fire and were pinned down from about 4pm until about 3M when we were finally rescued by C Co of our battalion. Of the 30 plus men on the initial mission, 2nd Plt reinforced by the Recon Plt we suffered 1 Kia and around 10 wins as best as I can remember. Charles took my radio to try to call in fire support when he was hit. I helped carry his body to the chopper after we were relieved. Charles was a brave man and a good friend. May he rest in peace
