Brothers Forever

My name is Tom Combs and I am comanager of a website for Bravo Bothers, a group of veterans of B Company 1/11 (M), which is the military unit Sgt Bemboom was with when he was killed in Vietnam. The group, Bravo Brothers, is dedicating a memorial plaque to the 41 members of our unit who were killed in Vietnam during the three years the unit was stationed there. We are making a memory book to keep with the memorial in an effort to further commemurate those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

If you have a picture of Sgt Bemboom in his military uniform or a photo from high school we would welcome a copy. Photos can be emailed or I can provide an address for someone needing to use snail mail. If you would like to write up a personal tribute to him, we would be glad to include it on his memorial page.

Bravo Brothers salutes this brave soldier and we will never forget him. He is our brother and will be in our hearts forever - may he rest in eternal peace.

An honor to serve with you.

Herbert,

Even though it is over 35 years ago, I can easily picture you and the rest of the guys in our squad. All we had was each other. We would talk endlessly about home and our miserable conditions in the bush. I remember the Pall Mall's you smoked. I used to kid you that they tasted like crap---until I would bum one from you and then they were a good cigarette! It took me 30 years to get up the courage to call your family to tell them I was there when you died. I spoke to your brother and it was very difficult for him. We talked a year later on Memorial Day and it was better. He loves you and misses you like crazy. I remember the 4th of July when we were on bunker duty at Qua Viet. We were screwing around and shot off a bunch of pop flares. Someone on your side of the perimeter shot off a red flare which really cranked off Capt. Herdner. Next morning, he locked your heels and took your head off as you were the NCOIC. We all laughed later. Thanks for taking the heat. You are alive in our hearts. Mike

Thank You Herbert!

Dear Herbert,

I am a senior at Gridley High School in Gridley, Illinois. As a class challenge, I am remembering all those who have willingly gave up their lives for this country. I can’t imagine the hardships you encountered or even begin to realize what you went through. You are a hero to all and will not be forgotten. Thank you Herbert.

Sincerely,
Jen Steffen
