Not Forgotten

I have not forgotten you. I chair the Adoption Committee for The National League of Families of Prisoners of War and Missing in Action in Southeast Asia. We will always remember the 1,889 Americans still unaccounted for in Southeast Asia and the thousands of others that lost their lives. We will not stop our efforts until all of you are home where you belong.

We need to reach the next generation so that they will carry on when our generation is no longer able. To do so, we are attempting to locate photographs of all the missing. If you are reading this remembrance and have a photo and/or memory of this missing American that you would like to share for our project, please contact me at:

The Man That I Never Met

We've never met, a month ago I didn't even know that you existed. I went to D.C. and the Viet Nam Memorial, I bought your bracelet. I thought it would be a cool thing to have. I didn't know anything about you, just that we are from the same great state of Minnesota.

Then I visited "The Wall" and it hit me like nothing else has. I found out more about you, you were a Marine that was out on patrol on the day of October 19, 1966 and then you and 2 other men just disappeared, noone saw you captured, noone saw you die, you were just gone. Some records say that you are dead, that they just didn't find your body, but the ones that I think are true simply say, M.I.A.

It made me realize how lucky I am, how lucky we all are.

SSgt Richard Mishuk, I don't know whether you are still alive out there, 34 years after you disappeared, or whether you rest with God in Heaven. For if you are gone from this earth, then I know in Heaven you must be, along with all the other souls on that Wall. Thank you for going into a living Hell, just for the name of Freedom.

People may not remember you, but I asure you, I never will forget, the man that I never met.
