53 years ago today you risked your life to save mine. As your crew members were keeping me alive, I recognized you because you provided medivac training to my platoon a few weeks earlier. In my head, I am back in Vietnam every day and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Best Friend
George and I trained at Ft. Belvoir in VA in l967-68 at the 13th Field Hospital. Became best pals. I was a Capt and he a 2nd Lt. in Medical Service Corps. He hated the place and volunteered for combat and flight training. We met again in Vietnam in September, l968. He flew in all areas of Vietnam. A heroic man. Man! The stupidity!! Trying to have a Loach serve as a med-evac ship. No safe place for the patients. I visited his family on Long Island three times. Best guy on the planet. A friend I will never forget. Damn the politicians who got our beloved nation into that unwindable mess. Damn them for eternity. Dating back to JFK, They knew it could not be won. Damn JFK, Rusk, McNamara, Nixon, and especially Kissinger. All: Self-serving Jackals. Donald Barnett (Detachment Commander, 24th Evacuation Hospital, Long Binh, l968-69. God Bless George and his family. I never fired my weapon in anger in Vietnam. With the "gear in the rear."
