Remembering An American Hero

Dear Captain Paul Lloyd Milius, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Presidential Unit Citation

On December 21, 2007, the Navy squadron that Paul served in when he was lost ( VO-67 ) received the Presidential Unit Citation. The award was for combat actions in Laos and Vietnam 40 years ago. The unit award is equal to the Navy Cross on a personal level. Thank you for your courage Paul.

Untitled

Today I flew my flags for you
The crimson red, pure white and blue
Flag of black and white for all our lost
Symbol of a senseless war, not worth your loss

I close my eyes and see a man in green
Sitting on a large flat rock, his face unseen
I know him yet, I don't, he beckons me
Do not mourn my loss, for this is my destiny

I hear my flags as gentle winds swirl them in the air
Tell my brothers it's alright, my spirit's free, I'm without care
All things here are in harmony, only sun, no overcast
My mystery matters not, I am at peace at last

For a brief instant I see his face, as he lifts his head
I open my eyes, full of tears, joyful of the words he said
Sir you are not forgotten, a proud ship sails the sea
You're honored by your country for your steadfast gallantry

Today I flew my flags for you
The crimson red, pure white and blue
Flag of black and white for all our lost
Symbol of a senseless war, not worth your loss
