Thank You

Dear Cpl Jerry Menane, Thank you for your service as a Heavy Construction Equipment Operator. Your 53rd anniversary just passed, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Yesterday was POW/MIA Recognition Day, and today is the first day of autumn. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Ground Casualty

On September 12, 1967, a convoy of vehicles from 2nd Battalion, 40th Regiment of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) was traveling south on Highway QL-1, five miles south of Tam Quan in Binh Dinh Province, RVN, when it was attacked by a company-strength Viet Cong force. Helicopter gunships were dispatched to assist the besieged ARVN column. During the engagement, an ARVN advisor reported that an American jeep from the 137th Engineer Company was traveling north on QL-1 when it entered the battle zone and was hit by enemy fire. Two Americans, SP4 Frank E. Lyon and PFC Jerry B. Menane, were killed, and a third was wounded. A medivac was called, and the wounded man was taken to the 15th Medical Battalion. An element of the 19th Engineer Battalion was sent to the scene to recover the two bodies and jeep. Menane was posthumously promoted to Corporal. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Jerry Bruce Menane, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
