I visited your grave today and I left A American flag and Marine Corp flag, you are not forgotten my Brother, it has been along time since you passed and I remember us making plans to have dinner after the war, although I only knew you about 5 months, I have known you a lifetime. Semper Fi, Joe M.

Dear Sgt Carl Mellinger, Thank you for your service as a Machine Gunner. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Today is POW/MIA Recognition Day, and another summer is coming to end. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
