My Father was Chris's 1st Cousin
My dad Bobby Ammons went to school with Chris.. They were 1st Cousins. Many don't know this but Chris saved what was left of his unit in Nam when his unit was penned down by machine gun fire as they were on patrol. His brothers were dropping like flies. Chris took what grenades they had left, stormed the machine gun nests, got shot any times but still somehow managed to take out the VC. 4 of his teammates lives he saved would come to Clinton NC every year and take care of Chris's moms every need up until the day she died. One was a Dr, Lawyer, Dentist and accountant I believe. His mother aunt Sis we called her would only allow my father to enter Chris's room after he was killed in combat. My father passed in 2017 and on his death bed he gave me Chris's Combat Infantry Ribbon bc he knew as a combat veteran myself I would guard and take care of it until my last breath. Chris was a true American Indian hero. May you rest in peace cuz..
