Navy Commendation Medal
Corporal Timothy J Meeker was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, with Combat Distinguishing Device (V), for his heroism and meritorious achievement while serving as a Fire Team Leader. He was assigned to B Co, 1st Bn, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division.

Final Mission of CPL Timothy J. Meeker
CPL Timothy J. Meeker was rifleman serving with B Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines. On September 1, 1966, CPL Meeker was participating in a mine sweep of a road three miles east of Dai Loc (Ai Nghia) in Quang Nam Province, RVN, when a hostile explosive device detonated. Meeker suffered devastating injuries in the blast, including the loss of both legs at the knee and the left hand at the wrist, apart from multiple fragmentation wounds to his body. He was evacuated to the United States for treatment and died at 1:57 PM on October 29, 1966, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA, from complications due to his injuries.
