Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Lester Eugene Maynard, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Looking for Lester's buddies

Please help Lester's sister Carla get in touch with anyone who knew her brother. It would mean a lot to her. Carla wrote this in an email to me:

"He was with Co C, 2nd Bn, 3rd Inf, 199th Light Infantry Brigade. I am looking for someone who can talk to me about his last days over there.

His Company Commander was CPT Vesa J. Alakulppi and his Brigade Commander was LTC William C. Caver III. Hopefully some one will recognize these names and contact me."

Carla's email is

She found me through my VNV site. Please visit:
