Thank You

Dear CWO George Mason, Thank you for your service as a Cargo Helicopter Pilot. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Independence Day just passed. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

The Last Night With George

I had previously lost my brother in Laos as a fighter pilot and I had recently been medivac'd out of Nam serving with the 1st Marines. George called me and wanted me to accompany him to the officers club at Vance AFB where he shared with me his strong trepidation of his impending deployment to Nam. I tried to reassure him the best I could but there's no words that will combat fear. I told him I was scared before I went, during my time there and until I landed safely back in the US. If you aren't scared, you're not human I told him. There's nothing wrong with being scared. It CAN help keep you alive. These were feelings he couldn't share with family and friends who hadn't been where he was headed. I believe to this day, as troubled as he was about his deployment, he had a primenition.
