Miss you, Russ

Remember the New Year's Eve at Dover AFB just before we were to go to Vietnam? Played Risk all night and promised to get together once we got over there. You left life early, but I promise you that we'll get together in the life to come. So proud of your service and of the sacrifice you made for our country. God keep you and bless you until we meet again.

POW Bracelet

Going through my mother's things and found this bracelet. I remember her wearing it for a long time. Were they meant to be returned to the veteran or his family??

A SAD NOTIFICATION TO LOVING PARENTS

As a young 2nd Lt. stationed at Kirksville Air Force Station in Northeast Missouri, I was assigned the additional duty as Casualty Assistance Officer. I clearly remember the afternoon in June 1966 when myself and Technical Sgt. Harris were tasked with driving to a rural farm in Bloomfield, Iowa. We had the sad duty of providing the initial, personal notification to the parents of Russell Martin that their son was missing-in-action. It was a deeply emotional moment for me and of course, shocking and distressing for his parents. This incident and Russell's loss, stay with me to this day, 55 years later. May Russell now continue to rest peacefully with Our Supreme Commander in Paradise, along with the other brave and noble veterans who gave their lives in all wars, for the liberty and freedom we enjoy today.
