A true soldier and friend.
I met Larry when we were 8-9 years old at Mt. Carmel CME church on Chicago's Southside and we attended Tilden Tech. While we weren't the best of friends we had a lot in common. We served in Vietnam at the same time though not in the same unit. Larry was killed a month after I got home. A plaque was placed in his memory at Mt. Carmel church. He was loved by his church family and all who knew him.

honoring you...
War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth.
Those who did not come back alive remain
in perpetual springtime -- forever young --
And a part of them is with us always.

Today, 12/18/21, I learned that you were killed in action in South Vietnam. I was one of over a hundred volunteers pacing wealths at the markers in the Fort Sheridan Cemetery. I read the words of each maker before placing the wreath. Tears filled my eyes when I saw you were with the 173rd, as I was. Rest well Sky Soldier.
