THE WALL OF FACES

I never met Stanley, however I want to share a coincidence. In 2000 I visited Washington DC for the second time but saw the Vietnam memorial for the first time. I looked for any soldier with my name and found only one Martens. Stanley died on the 4th of July 1969 and I realized that date was exactly the same day that I was in Washington the first time as a 14 years old teen. My name is Emile Martens (Belgium).

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. As long as you are remembered you will remain in our hearts forever….

Martens taught me to drive the big gun. I learned my job from him. He died while driving his gun. There but for the grace of God...

Dear Sp4 Stanley Martens, Thank you for your service as a Field Artillery Basic. Your 51st anniversary is soon, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Father’s Day just passed, and it’s summer. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
