Best friend

You are still remembered and honored. Meeting you in Waynesboro, Virginia while employed at General Electric was one of life's greatest blessings. You truly loved your parents; you spoke of them often along with your brother Dave.

I still remember the MGB passed on to you from Dave. I wonder if the car still has hidden keyboard chips.

You were the most courteous young man around. Mountain climbing and spelunking were amazing feats.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Richard James Beck, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

For PFC Richard James BECK, USA...another of Pittsburgh's bravest of heroes who gave his life for us

He loved us so.
Every day, in a hundred ways, he told us so.
In honesty, in affection, he told us so.
He loved us so.
Every day, in a hundred ways, he showed us so.
With loyalty and bravery, he showed us so.
He was our defender, and he kept us free!
He took an oath to guard us, and fought for liberty!
He loved us so, and we should know.
For we loved him so.
PFC Beck, you have done your duty and more in Vietnam, and you have given all that mortality can give. Your sacrifice was NOT in vain. America is still a free nation, and strong. You did brave deeds for our country. You had been there and done that under trying circumstances. Facing death every day is never easy for any soldier, even one with ten hash marks down his left sleeve. I honestly believe that Jill Corey, who Avonmore (her hoem town) and Pittsburgh (where she got her start) can claim as one of their own, along with England's Julie Andrews and England's Dusty Springfield (though no longer with us in the physical), would be proud of your service to our great country. Well done, Soldier. Be thou at peace.
