THE WALL OF FACES

Patrick Lovell was a good friend of my dad's (Larry). When I found this web site it sent chills through me and my dad. Finding this about Patrick really ment alot to my dad. I never knew Patrick but I feel like I did from the way my dad talked about him. He will never be forgotten in this family.

For heroism in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. PFC Lovell distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 23 June 1970 while serving as a Rifleman with Company E, 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry. On that date, the company was conductiong a reconnaissance mission in Tien Phuoc District when it observed evidence of enemy activity in the area. Responding immediately to the urgency of the situation, Private Lovell maneuvered upon a suspected enemy emplacement where he overheard the insurgents inside. Ignoring the danger involved, he engaged the enemy with highly effective bursts of small arms fire. As the insurgents fled, Private Lovell unhesitatingly pursued them, maintaining his suppressive fire as he continued moving forward. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he continued his pursuit until he was mortally wounded by an especially fierce exchange of fire. Through his timely and courageous actions, he was largely responsible for routing the insurgents from the area and served as an inspiration to his entire unit. PFC Lovell's personal heroism, professional competence, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, the Americal Division, and the United States Army.

We lost you 30 years ago today, but you will live in my heart forever.

Patrick Lovell was a good man and a loving father. His passing left a an unfillable void in the life of his family and children. He was greatly loved and is missed by all who knew him.
