THE WALL OF FACES

Dear Cpl James Long, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is another spring, but like none other. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Jimmy, on this Memorial Day all of us from Second Platoon are thinking about how much we miss you. We have held your memory in our hearts for 48 years and it will be with our loved ones in the stories we told long after we have joined you.

I recall that I was with you,John Royse and Frank Thomas.We stopped for chow under the shade of a hedgerow.

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for the ultimate sacrifice that you made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. And please know that men and women like you have stepped forward to defend our country yet again, showing the same love for country and their fellow Americans that you did- you would be proud.

With respect, and the best salute that a civilian can muster for you.
