Fond rememberances

We had some fun times, even at the Major/1Lt level, such as the time that as the defense counsel for a court martial, I tried to get the trial date to be December 25th (1968). You quickly saw through it and laughed about the attempt, and put the date off for a while.

As the commander of the newly formed Reaction Platoon that was involved in your decision, I am grateful for your desire to look out for the welfare of your Marines of all ranks.

That night will never be forgotten

Most of us never understood what was going on that night. I'm not sure that I do now. Difficult choices were made. Major, you'll always be remembered.

His life for his men

All these years, I have held your memory in the deepest respect and love. Your deepest regards for your troops ultimitely cost you your life. The suffering of your men ate your heart out. I saw it in your eyes when I met you on hill 55 that first time in late 1968. I hold you in the highest esteem of any Marine I ever served with in my twenty years in our Corps. I salute you sir.

Semper Fidelis buddy
