honoring you...
A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

Ground Casualty
PFC Norman L. Lingley was a Tactical Wire Operations Specialist serving with B Battery, 6th Battalion, 56th Artillery, 97th Artillery Group, II Field Force, U. S. Army, Republic of Vietnam. Lingley’s duties included the installation of telephones and switchboards and laying wire and cable. On November 6, 1966, Lingley reportedly sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head and chest while returning to his base. When a casualty report was prepared eight days later, the exact circumstances of his death were unknown; however, in an improbable move, the Army later coded his loss “accidental self-destruction.” Lingley had been in Vietnam only three weeks.
