A good friend and brother in arms

Rudy. I was serving in the Coast Guard in New England when I learned of your death in VN. It hit me hard. Took me years to visit the Wall, but I did. I found you and sat with you for a while. Time does not heal all wounds, just makes them easier to live with. You were smart and funny and it doesn't surprise me you went Airborne. God be with you. See you one day, again.

Grady R. Lester JR / Rudy A Great American !

I was 6 years younger than Rudy and always seen him at the gas station in Wicomico Church Va. where i worked when i would fill up his New Blue Plymounth Road Runner with gas. His brother name Glenn who i went to school with in Northumberland County Virginia in the 1970s. I would go to Glenns home as a young man and would see Rudy when he was home on leave. I really liked Rudy because even thou he was 6 years older than i, he would stop and take the time to talk to me about cars in general and about his Road Runner. Rudy was a Great Guy and American ! Thank You Rudy for Your Service ! Monty

Teaching to honor and remember

For my grandson, you are a picture in his grandma's high school yearbook. We took the Northumberland High yearbook of 1967 to the Wall that Heals when it was in our town. At age 10, he looked up the location of your name, Rudy. Then we found it on the Wall.. I hope by seeing your name and face and hearing my memories it will make the experience real to him. I told him one day he would see the full size wall in Washington, D.C. I hope he remembers our day at the Wall That Heals and that his grandma knows you and remembers your sacrifice.
