What a Hero

Died going after his 2LT who had been hit by sniper fire. The sniper mortally wounded PFC Bean as he attempted to assist.
He exemplified all it is to be American.
Served as a draftee.

Neighborhood Friend

You were 3 years older than me when we were kids but you still took the time to hang out with me a couple of times. I had a lot of respect for you as a kid without a dad. You were kind and a good role model. I was on leave, heading to Vietnam when I heard you were killed so my memory of you became sealed forever. See you again someday.... Peace.

Remembered

DEAR PFC BEAN,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AS A GRUNT. I WISH YOU WERE KILLED SO CLOSE TO YOUR BIRTHDAY, BUT NO TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.
IT IS STILL THE CHRISTMAS SEASON.AND WE ARE THANKFUL FOR YOU. IT IS NEW YEAR, WHICH MAKES IT FAR TOO LONG FOR YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOUR COURAGE.. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE SAINTS AND ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE.

Escort Duty

I am now 73 years old, but I still think of him and his sacrifice daily. I was stationed at Ft Carson, C0., when I was called for escort duty. They had special personnel for that job, but I suppose they were short. I will say it was the hardest duty of my service. I also served in Vietnam, with the 1st Infantry Div. As hard as it was, I feel honored to have met his family. I still get emotional thinking about his sacrifice. Will always remember all who gave some, and some gave all!!
