Tears From a Grateful Heart
Honoring all who sacrificed for our freedom.
"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13
I have heard many stories about Tom and the others who were members of 1st/501st Inf 101st Airborne Division in 1969. He was in Delta Company. If I remember correctly Tom was an RTO, and I think he was in the 2nd Plt. His call sign was 2-5 Bravo. Tom was calm in the midst of chaos. He loved his parents and often sent recordings home from Nam. He was a good friend to my husband and a good soldier. He will always be missed and remembered.

A Week To Remember
As I remember it, it was a hot sunny day. We were on a patrol. My squad held up and took a lunch break. Over the radio we got a transmission that two men took contact around a bomb crater. They were hit by a RPG round and one was a KIA and one was a WIA. At the time I was a RTO in another platoon and Tom was the RTO in a different platoon. As I listened to the radio transmission, the LT. didn't seem to have the number manifest to ID the victims without saying their names over the net. So he said it was his 2-5-Bravo that was KIA and the other person was his Platoon Sgt. which turned out to be SSG Flood. I knew it was Tom that got killed. It was a sad day. Just six days before we were together when our close friend Mike Deragon was killed when someone accidentaly kicked a rifle while he rested on his ruck sack waiting to go on a night ambush back at LZ Sally. Tom and Mike had been with me since AIT at Ft. Dix, NJ. I will always miss them. And I hope they are waiting for me.
