Chartiers Valley High School Educational Trip

To James Charles Baumer. Tomorrow I will be travelling to the Vietnam War Memorial with my high school history class. In preparation, we researched the names of the Vietnam War Veterans on the wall.We will also be doing rubbings of the names on the wall, in remembrance of the significant acts of courage they contributed for our country.

Jim, I'll remember you!

Jim and I met at Engineman A School in May 1969. We were friends in the Brown Water Navy (Mine division 113, MSM-18,and Jim's "Tango" boat in a River Assault Division) where we met often at Ben Luc and on the Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay Rivers in RVN.
35 years later, I still remember my friend's ready smile and later, sadly, seeing what was left of his Tango boat on the beach at Ben Luc.
You are not forgotten, shipmate.

JAMES C. BAUMER

I met James in Aug 1969 when we were in a group of 80 Navy Sailors that trained at NIOTC, Mare Island, CA . We arrived in Vietnam in Nov 1969 and were assigned to various Brown Water Navy boats operating in the Mekong Delta. On 1-21-70 we were saddened to hear that James was the first fatality from our original group. We honor the ultimate sacrifice James made and we still mourn his loss 35 years later.
