Neighbor, and Good Kid

What I remember most about Roy Koenig was his beautiful smile-and his willingness to share it with others! He was the first boy from Rosedale that I actually knew, to be killed in the war. It stunned me, and to this day I remember him, and Jimmy Kelly in my prayers each day. A few years ago I found his grave in Pinelawn when I went to visit my Dad's. The headstone was dirty-so I got him a new one. Now I maintain it along with my Dad's. I just wanted him to know that he wasn't forgotten. He will remain forever young in my heart.
God Bless you, Roy Koenig.

My buddy, still missed today!

I was a classmate of Roy's at Power Memorial Academy in New York City. We did everything together, in fact, that was our phrase in school. We would look at one another and at the same time say "Together". Roy was a class act with a tremendous sense of humor. Every time I think of Roy, tears come uncontrolled, like now... I miss ya buddy...:(

roy robert koenig

he died on oct. 7 1968 with the 2nd and 12th infantry of the 25th division, and as he lay there dying with his m60 machine gun firing still, he gave his life so others could get out until he was overrun and massacred. This man, who I grew up with and went through AIT with, and was split up from in Vietnam, both serving in the 25th division, deserved the medal of honor, and is not even listed in the 25th division 1965-70 Vietnam book from Turner publishing, what a disgrace, its like he died for noone, an unknown soldier!

Reflection to a fellow veteran, neigbor, and high school student

Roy I didn't know you well even though you lived around the block in Rosedale Queens, and went to Power Memorial High School with my brother. Every time
I looked at your name on the Rosedale memorial I felt sad I never really knew you. When I went to Vietnam years later I thought of you a lot.
God bless you Roy. Jack Cunningham Rosedale Queens
