Time of Innocence

Larry and I were cadets at GMC in Milledgeville, GA.
He was the Battle Group CO.
He even at that point in time(1959-61) a leader. My
heart has been sadden, each and everytime I personally
go to The Wall in DC or our
half-sized Wall here in Pensacola, FL. His death was a sobering experience to all that knew him and those that took the PLC exam with him in Atlanta, GA
We remember for always....

Great guy. Outstanding Marine. I'll miss him always.

Larry & I were close friends. We joined the same rifle company (A/1/7) together as platoon commanders at Camp Pendleton in February of 1964. We served together on Okinawa (2/9) and in Da Nang (2/9) and Hawaii (1/5) in 1964 and 1965. We returned to Viet Nam with 1/5 early in 1966. Larry was killed (along with 7 other Marines and a Navy Corpsman) on 4/29/66 by a large booby trap mine while serving as a platoon commander in C/1/5 on Operation Osage south of Hue Phu Bai. It blew him in half. I’ll never forget that incredibly sad day. Larry was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. He was an outstanding Marine who was universally liked and respected. He loved fast cars and motorcycles. He was a really good athlete - played baseball at Florida State. I’ll miss him always.

I've attached a photo of Larry taken on Okinawa in 1964. I have some more that I would be happy to scan and e-mail to anyone who is interested.

Semper Fi!
