honoring you...

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. While all deaths in Vietnam are tragic that you died on Christmas, one day before your 20th birthday is especially so. May you rest in eternal peace.

CHILDHOOD FRIENDS

I was home on Christmas leave when I saw your picture in the Plain Dealer. I had to read it twice to believe what it said. You joined the Navy first, then Lenny and then I left for bootcamp right after Lenny got back. Lenny was in the South China Sea on a carrier and was an AE (Aviation Electronics Tech.). I was an AG (Weatherman) and Air Crewman. You, my friend, were stationed on a river patrol boat. I guess in the Delta somewhere. As I understand it you were on your second tour and newly married. Now your body is at Calvary Cemetery the place we used to drive around on weekends when we were learning to drive. We went to St. Mary's together, you, Lenny and me and then I went to Holy Name, you went to St. Stan's, and Lenny to Benedictine but we stayed in contact.
So, I am thinking of you today. You died on Christmas Day in Viet Nam but it was your birthday in Cleveland due to the time difference. There are so many stories and I remember them as if they were yesterday.
I am trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as my savior and his death, burial and resurrection for eternal life because that is what the word of God says about salvation. I am hoping to see you again in glory my friend. Thank you for the memories.
I sure wish you would have been an Airdale like Lenny and me, rather than a Snipe.
I miss you both.
