Always Remembered, my Uncle
I will always remember you. I grew up hearing stories from my Mom. We had pictures of you displayed . Your funeral was the first I attended at 4 1/2 years old. I thought you were asleep in a box. I remember you watching us while Mom taught school. You liked to tease us and laugh. My youngest brother was named Glenn after you. I know I will see you again one day.

Remembering you on this Memorial Weekend
It saddens me greatly that you did not get to experience life with us as we became old men. You would be 74 years old now but will always be 19 to our family. I continue to be amazed and inspired by your bravery in your actions during your last day, hours and minutes on this earth. You did your duty went it called and stepped up to help protect your brothers in arms. Not many of us who have not faced actual combat will ever understand what you did. I can only say that it is up to the rest of us who remain to stand our ground as you did those 55 years ago. I go now to remember at your gravesite at Deep Branch Cemetery. You will not ever be forgotten as long as you have family alive. Uncle Sam Kerns

Your Bravery is not and will not be forgotten. Your Uncle Sam.
Another year has gone by and the tears still come to my eyes as I think of you in that far away land so long ago. You are still only 19 years of age in my mind. Now a days it seems that to many take for granted the sacrifices made by heroes such as yourself so that we could still enjoy our freedom. It is my hope that when the time comes for us to defend freedom and our constitution on our OWN soil, that we will be as brave as you were in 1967 and step to the forefront and do our part. You are missed so very much and I am still sad that I did not get to be part of you growing old with the rest of us who are still here. Uncle Sam.
