I Remember Your Sacrifice

SGT Martin Kerby started his second tour in Vietnam by joining Company B, 2/27, 25th Infantry in July of 1969. He was leading his platoon across a wet rice paddy while returning to the Company’s perimeter from a night ambush site. He apparently stepped on what was believed to have been a 500 pound bomb, under the mud, that had not detonated after being dropped by a friendly plane. A geyser of water, mud and SGT Kerby went high into the air. He died instantly. His platoon members looked for him for more than an hour so he could be declared dead instead of missing in action. A second platoon came out to help with the search. Only a partially filled coffee can held his remains that could be found. No one else in his platoon was seriously injured as proper distance was maintained between the men and the blast basically went straight up into the air.

You were one of the brave that answered the call. You honored us by your service and sacrifice. We now honor you each time we stand and sing the words “THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE”. Rest in Peace and Honor Martin.

Thank You

Dear Sgt Martin Kerby, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Today is Thanksgiving, so this is the perfect time to say thanks. The time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
