Dear America

I read the book “Dear America” when I was in high school. My father had passed away and I was going through a hard time. I connected with his letters. I was very inspired by him. A decade later, when I was in law school I was able to go to D.C. and the first thing I did on my free time was go to the wall to look for his name.

My confindant.

Many years ago, while I was in high school, I read the book "Dear America. Letters Home From Vietnam". For some reason I felt a connection to Sandy. I don't know why. My life, at that time, was not a good life. I suffered many abuses. I began writing a journal and every entry began with "Dear Sandy". They were basically all letters to him because for some reason, I felt that he would understand. I am in my 40's now and still write to him. Even though he does not know it, he got me through a horrible time in life by being the only person who would listen. Thank you Sandy.
