We Will Remember
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Coming up on 60 years...
Aloha Alika,
I know you know how often I have thought of you over the years. For being such fierce competitors in grade school, I'm amazed that we never associated much after that short period in Kahului School on Kaahumanu Avenue. I remember running to your house in NASKAH once during the summer, just to spend the day with you. I was disheartened to hear of your ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us; but enlightened by your dedication to the country and being a Maui Boy by your strong conviction to do you duty during one of the most dreadful times in our history.
We'll have lots to talk about when we meet again, for sure.
Aloha Alika...

Ground Casualty
CPL Alexander A. Kaopuiki Jr. was an infantryman assigned to First Platoon, B Company, 4th Battalion, 21st Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. On August 8, 1969, his unit was in the vicinity of LZ Debbie, approximately 7 miles west of Duc Pho, in Quang Ngai Province, RVN. CPL Kaopuiki was killed in a grenade accident when he tried to throw away a live grenade and save his fellow soldiers of first platoon. He was commended for this heroic act, reacting to the incident by trying to protect his comrades instead of diving for cover to save himself. This was evident later when it was observed he had lost his arm in the blast. Two others were also killed in the explosion, PFC Nelson Andino and SP4 Stanley B. Hojnowski.
