honoring you...

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. You died at 18 years of age. I am 73 and have lived a long and fulfilling life. It is tragic you never had that same opportunity. May you rest in eternal peace.

Thank You

Dear PFC Harold Jones, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is Columbus Day Weekend. The time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of PFC Harold L. Jones

On January 15, 1969, a squad-sized element of H Company, 2nd Battalion, 26th Marines, 1st Marine Division, were on patrol in Quang Nam Province, RVN, when it was ambushed by a hostile force from a tree line. At the same time, an SFD (surprise firing device or booby-trap) was detonated. While attempting to conduct a medivac, two more SFD’s, which were organized in an “S” pattern, were detonated. The patrol requested an 81mm mortar mission on the suspected enemy position after which the medivac was able to be accomplished. During the incident, two Marines, PFC Harold L. Jones and LCPL Roberto Ramos, were killed after suffering multiple shrapnel wounds to the head and body. Another four Marines were wounded.
