Met Doug in summer 69 at Ft. Lewis infantry training. You could tell from the start he was the real deal. Seems we both had a liking for Gary Puckett and the Union Gap which came from around Yakima. He was one of the most honest, likable people I ever met. We were going to on fly over together on Aug. 21 but I got lazy and went on the 23rd. Until last November, I thought he made it and was living. I didn't know. I have a picture of him upstairs. Everytime I hear a Union Gap song, I think of Doug. I just found out where he is buried and I am going as soon as I can. Promise. Now I am thinking what would have happened if I was on that flight with him? You deserved better buddy. It was a joy to have known you.

Dear Sp4 Douglas Jones, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Tomorrow is actually Columbus Day. The time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
