My father

As the anniversary of my father's death approaches, it is comforting to read the very kind and respectful words from those who never knew this wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and uncle. My mother was left with four children under 5, the youngest was 6 weeks old when he shipped out. She is a strong and faith filled woman. The 4 of us have remained very close over the years and pray we will be united with him after our earthly life. Blessings for all of you remembering,
Elaine Barrett Frye

Wild Bill Barrett

Wild Bill Barrett was my Platoon Leader at Fort Benning and in Vietnam. The epitome of Cool. He really cared about his men. He was highly competent and courageous, but he had the common touch. His men adored him and trusted him. I was there when he was hit. He was smiling when they evacuated him. His loss was profound. I met Roberta and his kids at his home shortly before we left for RVN. I think of him often. He was the best.

From your granddaughter

Grandpa,
It’s such a strange feeling to miss someone you never knew, I’m so sorry your time here on earth was cut so short. I’m so proud to call you my grandpa and I hope you know how cherished you are amongst my siblings, cousins and your own children. Love you always.

From your children

Dad,
You are not forgotten. We are so very proud of you and your sacrifice for our country. Of course, we would rather have you here, but God had a different plan, and by his Grace we have learned to accept it. Special prayers for you on this day. We love you always and we have never forgotten you! You are a great-grandfather many times over now, but you probably already know that!
With love and prayers always, from your oldest daughter,
Elaine Cecile
