Bronze Star Medal Award for Valor

Staff Sergeant Gary Clarence Johnston was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, with Combat Distinguishing Device (V), for his exemplary gallantry in action. He was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Merit for his sustained meritorious service. He served as an Indirect Fire Infantryman and was assigned to D CO, 1ST BN, 7TH CAVALRY, 1ST CAV DIV.

Dear Ssgt Gary Johnston, Thank you for your service as an Indirect Fire Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. The 50th anniversary of the start of your tour is soon. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It's almost Columbus Day. The time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. a good man in my squad. delta co. 1/7

I was his squad leader for a short period of time. I left the company april 5th. he taught me how to make coffee that tasted good. he was a wonderful and brave young man. I think of him often. God bless him and his loved ones.
