Remembering An American Hero
Dear SGT McArthur Johnson, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

One of the First to Give His Life
McArthur Johnson was a well-known young man in the Port City. He was a nice guy, was strong, "good with his hands". When the news came that he had been killed in Vietnam, the community was in shock. How could it be? Not McArthur!
I remember how we all went to the funeral home and saw him in a glass-covered casket, the first time we had ever seen anything like that. I will never forget that moment, when Vietnam became an all-too-real reality instead of some far-away place halfway around the world.
We honor you McArthur, and will cherish your memory as a man's man, a warrior we will not forget.
