Remembering An American Hero
Dear LCPL Freddie Lee Johnson, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

Ambush on 689
LCPL Johnson was one of about 18 men KIA on 689. He was part of a combined force from India and Lima Companies, 3rd Bn 26th Marines, who were involved in an attempt to rescue some Marines from Combined Action Company Oscar who had been ambushed earlier that day, The entire story and pictures are posted on Google sites at https: sites.google.com site usmccaposcar in-memoriam If any survivors or family members wish to contact me with more details about him or the other men who were KIA or WIA at this battle, I would be grateful.
