50 Years ago today

Bill was my buddy the summer of '67 at Ft Sill Artillery School. We were both Marine 2nd lieutenants. I saw him for the last time on Okinawa around the 2nd of September. He flew out on a C130 for Vietnam a couple of days before me. I wished him 'God speed'. At that moment a feeling came over me that I would not see him again. Unfortunately, I was right. 50 years ago today, 16 Sept 2017 Bill paid the ultimate price in service to our great country. RIP my friend.

Quite A Mentor

Dear Uncle Bill,
You were always one of my favorites. Loved the attention you seemed to find for family, especially paint by number velvet paintings:)
I was young when you left and I remember being heartbroken. I also remember when "the Call" came and the soldiers were at the door.
I was heartbroken once again, but always have kept your memory alive in my heart and vocally. Now your brother and sister have joined you and I know together with your parents, you are all reunited. Not a day goes by that I don't think of all of you. Thank you for what you have sacrificed for your family and for the American People. With your personality being so kind, patient, compassionate and integral, I know you may not have wanted to go over there and fight people you didn't even know, you just went to do as you were told and I think God took you in the early days so you would not have to bare the thought of what harm you may have done to another.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear 2LT William George Jerro, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

A Good Man

Bill Jerro and I were team mates on the Xaverian H.S. cross country team. Bill was a quiet man of integrity. A good man.
