Thank You
Dear Sp4 Richard Jankowski, Thank you for your service as a Preventive Medicine Specialist. Thank you for the lives you saved. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It's the end of summer. The time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

He's With You Now
Pete Browne, you best friend in the war, passed away today and so I can only imagine that you two are now reunited someplace, somewhere laughing once again at each other's antics. Give him a handshake for me, as I never got to in life. With love, your niece.

Fifty Years Prior
50 years ago, you left this world behind. I visited your grave for the first time in my 29 years of living yesterday, and held my mother, your youngest sibling and sister, in my arms as we both cried over our loss of you. I never met you, but always felt that you were with my mother and with me. I may even have a few traits that were very distinctly yours. Your life has meant so much to me. I know it has meant much to my mother, as well. Elaine, your sister, frequently told me stories about your kindness, generosity, daring, and compassion.
I speak not just for myself, but for those that have always spoke highly of you. My grandmother, and your mother, Dorothy, and her husband, John. My uncle, your brother, Johnny. My aunt Pat, your sister, and my mother, your sister: Elaine. In recent years, a dear friend of yours, Pete, has also come into my life and his story of you will resonate forever in my mind. He named his son, Rich, after you. You must have been quite the person.
We all love you, Richie, and I know that for those that knew you it's hard to forget you. You were just that kind of person, full of light and love. We feel you even without you and miss you dearly.
Always,
Diane and Elaine

Remembering An American Hero
Dear SP4 Richard John Jankowski, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
