Ground Casualty

PFC Robert L. Hurst served with the 119th Transportation Company, 5th Transportation Command, 1st Logistical Command, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam. The 5th Transportation Command performed cargo unloading at port facilities in Military Region II. The supplies they brought to shore supported military operations carried out by U.S., South Vietnamese, and Free World Military Assistance Forces. On November 3, 1965, Hurst was doing maintenance on a forklift near Qui Nhon in Binh Dinh Province, RVN. While inflating a tire, a section of the multi-piece wheel assembly was blown off, striking him in the head. He was transported to the 85th Evacuation Hospital seven miles west of Qui Nhon where he was admitted in critical condition with a cerebral (brain) laceration. Despite the supportive measures of medical staff, he expired 12 hours later. Hurst was 23 years old. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
