Ground Casualty

Tay Ninh West Base Camp was a U.S. Army and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) base west of Tay Ninh city in Tay Ninh Province, RVN. The base was established approximately five kilometers (3.1 miles) west of Tay Ninh and twelve kilometers (7.4 miles) from the Cambodian border. Elements of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Brigades, 25th Infantry Division, were at various times based at Tay Ninh. The base also served as the headquarters for the 196th Light Infantry Brigade from April 1966 to August 1967. On the afternoon of March 8, 1967, an accidental shooting incident at Tay Ninh claimed the life of a 196th Infantry Brigade soldier. Infantryman SP4 George E. Hulse III from C Company, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, was on perimeter defense when another man’s weapon inadvertently discharged. The errant round struck Hulse in the head killing him instantly. An Army volunteer, Hulse was 20 years old. [Sourced at coffeltdatabase.org]

honoring you...

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.
