One of the finest individuals ever to cross my path

I knew Roger in high school although he went to Calhoun and I to Mepham. We learned to surf together with Joel Smith in 1964 and had many adventures with surfing like the one time we had a bonfire and Roger brought Guinness stout and put it near the fire because it was supposed to be served "warmed up". He was "old school" when he entered the navy choosing the "button up" style of trousers because it was tradition in his family. We lost a beautiful and gentle man when Vietnam took him from us. You are missed every day my friend.

To one who should never have been there

Roger was my age but went to Calhoun High while I was at Mepham. He was one of the finest and gentlest of all the folks I knew throughout high school. Never one to either pick or be involved in a fight, he was the one who would find a way to solve the problem without violence. Had Roger lived I have no doubt that he would have made a GREAT politician. One who was as the Constitution says is by the people and for the people. Over these many many years I don't believe that there have been more than a month's worth of days that I have not felt the pain of his loss. Roger, wherever you are , keep on fightin' the good fight and know that you are sorely missed. Your friend, Don George

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CN Roger Edward Huestis, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
