YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Dear Specialist 4 Hubbard~ You Are Not Forgotten!
This is the 4th year, on the anniversary of your passing, that I ran a mile with you in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace, Dear Brother.

Each year since September 2015, at the annual 5th Division Army reunion, members of the Society of the Fifth Division, U.S Army remember the 514 soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 5th Division, who were Killed in Action in Vietnam. You are among the soldiers remembered. You Are Not Forgotten!

Ground Casualty

The 1st Brigade, 5th Infantry Division was dispatched to South Vietnam following the Tet Offensive in support of 3rd Marine Division forces deployed in Quang Tri Province. The brigade served from July 1968 until August 1971, contributing to the defense of the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The brigade’s area of tactical responsibility included the lowlands and piedmont of the province, from the DMZ south to the Thua Thien provincial border. A fire support base was maintained at LZ Nancy (My Chanh), located five kilometers (3.1 miles) southeast of Quang Tri city. On April 20, 1969, a brigade soldier, SP4 George A. Hubbard, died in his unit’s billets at Nancy. Hubbard, a “pioneer” serving with A Company, 7th Engineer Battalion, was found expired in his bed at 9:00 AM. Postmortem studies determined he died after aspirating the contents of his stomach following alcohol intoxication. Aspiration happens when foreign material is inhaled into the airway causing asphyxiation from a blocked respiratory tract. In healthy young men, it may occur during sleep when the sedating effects of alcohol impair cough and gag reflexes. Hubbard was 19 years old. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
