Rest in PEACE

You probably knew my brother, Donald W. Drake. He was in "K" Co. also. Donald was killed on December 31, 1966. Rest in peace knowing that your honor and commitment will never be forgotten.

My High School buddy

Jim Barker and I were in High School together as we delivered papers for the Oregonian. We got an apartment together after graduation. When I got my draft notice we decided to join the Marines on a buddy plan. We went to boot camp together, did intensive jungle warfare training and boarded a ship landing in Chu Lai South Vietnam in Mid April 1966. Jim B was assigned to Kilo Company 3rd Battalion 1st Marines. I went to Lima Company. The next time I saw Jim was in the hospital in Danang in mid Sept. He had been targeted in an ambush as he was carrying the PRC 25 radio and the enemy would target our communications. He died of infection at the Bremerton Wa Naval Hospital on Jan. 1, 1967 at age 20. He was a fine intelligent young man with a dry sense of humor. I enjoyed our years and time together and like so many miss him to this day.
