Always Smiling

One of my most fond memories of my brother Claude is that he was always smiling and had a heart of Gold. There was nothing he wouldn't do for you. There were letters sent home from Claude that described the Vietnamese children and how mal-nourished they were. They had bloated stomachs, rickets. Claude's heart went out to these children.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SGT Claude Howard, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Remembering one of our four New London, OH, fallen warriors

USMC Sgt Claude Howard came from a family of 13 children; there were 8 girls and 5 boys. He was the fifth child and the first son of Woodrow and Rebecca Howard. Claude was killed by a sniper's bullet while helping to load wounded soldiers onto a helicopter. He is not forgotten!
