honoring you...

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. You died at 18 years of age. I am 73 and have lived a long and fulfilling life. It is tragic you never had that same opportunity. May you rest in eternal peace.

My Brave Uncle

I never got to meet you Uncle Dave, but I feel like I know you well. I have always heard wonderful stories about you growing up. You gave the ultimate sacrifice for me and our country three years before I was born. I always liked looking at your pictures because I could see a reflection of myself. God blessed me with your same color of red hair, and same shaped eyes. I always heard you smiled a lot and I do too. I’ve had people ask me why I smile so much, I’m sure you got that too. Uncle Dave, thank you for being so brave at such a young age. You are loved by many. Your sister, my Mom still hurts for losing you. One day I will meet you face to face and we will just smile at each other and embrace. Thinking of you this Memorial Day 2022.
