Remembering An American Hero
Dear 2LT William James Hondel, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

Fateful decision
The morning he died I was supposed to be with him at the front of the convoy however at the last moment he decided to go with dave hampton and put me and steve hicks at the rear.We complained that we would be eating dust all day.So goes life.He was a fine man and a good friend.I knew there was someone else with them on that truck but never knew who it was. The rumor was he survived but never heard anymore than that.William also had a daughter he had never seen I believe his wife was German he once showed me their pictures.May he rest in peace. Martin. ps 5/3/07 I was able to meet Williams widow in october 2006. She lives in Wisconsin as does his daughter and grandson.
