My heroic Uncle Gary O. Holsinger

I remember my Uncle Gary vividly as he was an only son and brother to 3 sisters who adored him. He was indeed a lady's man. Loved to dance..fish..and hang with his buddies at the American Resturant in New Boston Ohio. He visited my Mom on his last night home before shipping out. Mom woke me up to say goodbye to him. He and his other sister Debbie were going out hitting his favorite bars that night. I had my long hair pinned up ad he asked me to take it down..and he told me to never cut my hair as most guys liked long hair. And here I am at 71 years old still with long hair...my promise to him remembered!! He was an only son and did not have to join up but he said it was his duty to do so. And yes we all heard him say he would not come home again but he would do everything he could to stay alive. I remember him talking of the torture they had learned of in training and he said he never wanted to be held captive. We were a family of mostly girls..me being the first granddaughter and 5 girls after me..we all adorned him. He had a ready smile for everyone. And another family trait he was a night owl..remember often coming to my Grandparents home for Sunday dinner and we had to be quite as he was still sleeping after closing the bars from the night before or all night fishing with his buddies!! He still is and will always be missed by his family. Gone too soon.
